Mexico is a country that many people should discover. Its people, contrasts, and culture are a wonder of humanity. In addition to this, car brands also know they are a market that is expanding and so many want to settle for convincing Mexican customers that their products are the best.
French Peugeot (Citroën is not sold there) has spent several years selling its cars in the country Aztec, however, success seems not to have accompanied them much. When I was in the country, several times I was interested in knowing its range and prices, and when I was aware of both, I realized where could be the fault.
Mexico is very close to the United States (perhaps more than now wish) and their buying tastes are heavily influenced by this country. The range of Peugeot models in Mexico was based only on urban, compact and mid-saloon models. However, the customer types there looking rather big cars with powerful engines and fineness price for all these conditions.
Obviously, as the models were not the size they seek and the price is higher than they want to pay, because sales are low. However, in the senior management of the PSA Group, they have decided to attack the Mexican market with its new SUV models and the first to have sent is the 3008 novel.
The guys at Auto Pan, have published spy photos (provided by a reader) of the Peugeot 3008 while engineers made several validation tests. The unit photographed had a diesel mechanic and that was the reason that betrayed it in the eyes of this reader. The reason is that in this country do not prevail diesel powered vehicles and being a novel model and refueling this type of fuel made it be discovered.
That this model arrives in Mexico may be the prelude to something greater. The Group PSA just buy Opel and the French need a godsend open markets beyond where they are not present. In addition, now that the SUV 5008 will also reach the market, would have two medium-sized models with which to convince the demanding Mexican customers.
This strategy of launching Peugeot SUVs in Mexico does not seem to us descabellad to, as it would allow them the opportunity to launch new models in the future. However what does not fit us at all is that they decide to do it with diesel mechanics after what has happened with Volkswagen since Mexico is not a country prone to this type of fuels.
We will have to see what happens when Peugeot decides to launch it definitively in the Aztec country.
